Ikeja is the capital of Lagos State and Ogba is one of its most under-rated neighbourhoods. If you are staying at Duban International Hotel and wondering how to spend an evening, a weekend or a long stopover, this is the list our own front-desk team gives to guests.

Eat like a Lagosian

Start at our own restaurant — the à la carte menu covers Nigerian classics like jollof, egusi and pepper soup alongside continental staples. For a full listing see the food & beverage menu. Off-site, walk 10 minutes to Aguda for suya spots that fire up after dark, or drive 15 minutes to Ikeja GRA for Sky Restaurant, Yellow Chilli and the Isaac John dining strip.

Shopping and everyday life

Ikeja City Mall is a 20-minute drive and covers everything from fashion to Filmhouse cinema. Computer Village in Alausa is the largest electronics market in West Africa — go with a local if you plan to buy. Ogba Market itself, right on your doorstep, is where you get a real, unfiltered slice of Lagos daily life: produce, textiles and Ankara at prices you will not find on the island.

Nightlife and entertainment

Weekend nightlife in Ikeja centres on Allen Avenue and Awolowo Way. For live music, Terra Kulture in Victoria Island is worth the drive on a Sunday afternoon. If you prefer a quiet drink, the hotel bar is stocked with local and imported labels and stays open late.

Family and daytime activities

Omu Resort in Bogije and Lekki Conservation Centre are firm favourites for a family day out — both roughly 90 minutes' drive depending on traffic. Closer to home, Muri Okunola Park and the National Museum in Onikan offer a calmer half-day.

Culture and community

The New Afrika Shrine in Ikeja, still run by the Anikulapo-Kuti family, hosts live Afrobeat performances almost every weekend. Freedom Park on Lagos Island, a former colonial prison turned cultural centre, is another regular stop for guests looking for concerts, food festivals and art fairs.

Practical tips from our concierge

  • Use ride-hailing apps (Bolt, Uber) rather than street taxis — safer and priced up front.
  • Carry small naira notes for markets and roadside food.
  • Traffic is worst 7–10 AM and 4–8 PM on weekdays; plan return trips outside those windows.
  • Ask the front desk before heading out at night — we will suggest a driver we already know and trust.
