There is no bad time to visit Lagos, but there is a right time for the kind of trip you are planning. This is how our own team at Duban International Hotel thinks about the Lagos calendar.

The two seasons

Lagos has a dry season (roughly November to March) and a rainy season (roughly April to October). Temperatures stay warm year-round — daytime highs of 28–33°C and lows of 22–25°C. Humidity is high all year and rises noticeably from May through August.

November – February: peak season

This is when the diaspora returns for the "Detty December" festival season. Expect the busiest nightlife, the biggest concerts and the fullest hotels. Book at least 4–6 weeks ahead for the last two weeks of December and expect premium rates. If you want the classic Lagos festive experience, this is your window.

March – April: dry, hot and quieter

The crowds have gone home, rates soften, and the weather is dry but hot. Ideal for business travellers and anyone who prefers Lagos without the crowds.

May – August: rainy season

Rain arrives in short, heavy bursts — usually late afternoon. Traffic worsens noticeably. Rates are typically the lowest of the year, so this is the sweet spot for value if you are flexible on schedule. Bring a light rain jacket and expect the occasional cancelled outdoor plan.

September – October: shoulder season

Rains taper off, humidity stays high, and the city feels almost tropical. A great window for cultural events, food festivals and off-peak rates before December demand kicks in.

Events worth planning around

  • Lagos Fashion Week — October
  • Felabration — mid-October, celebrating Fela Anikulapo-Kuti at the New Afrika Shrine
  • Lagos International Jazz Festival — April
  • Nigerian Independence Day — 1 October
  • Detty December — mid-December to first week of January
